HEI-MATAU/FISHHOOKS
The hei-matau or fishhook
is a potent and distinctive form in Maori
KORU
Like an unfurling young fern frond, the koru spiral
symbolises unfolding
new life.
MANAIA
The Manaia figure is a spiritual
guardian symbolising
the protection of the wearer of the taonga (treasure).

PACIFIC PEARL SHELL
These lustrous pendants and earrings from well known NZ jade artist, Neil
Hanna are made from the Pacific Pearl shell, and come in all shades through
pearly white, cream, silvery grey to black.

PAUA
The combination of paua and
silver (or gold) is a distinctive form of NZ jewellery. For centuries Maori
have used paua as inlay eyes in wood and bone carvings. Paua is much
appreciated in Europe where people are less familiar with the depths and hues
of this gorgeous opalescent shell.
We have all sorts of different paua jewellery in the shop including hand crafted
bone manaia with paua eyes and paua and silver pieces. We also stock Ariki
paua jewellery.
ARIKI PAUA
Ariki jewellery from New Zealand features a large range of designs from
abstract styles to kiwi, dolphin and fern. Gemstone quality paua shell
is set into either gold plate or palladium (a silver coloured hypo-allergenic
non-tarnishing metal plating).
